These are Royal Mail (United Kingdom) 1st class commemorative stamps issued in 2007 (not 2005 as some dates on the stamps suggest for population data; the set is often called "Endangered Birds" or "Birds" issue from September 4, 2007). The set of 10 se-tenant stamps highlights rare or once-endangered British breeding birds that have shown significant recovery thanks to conservation efforts, legal protection, and habitat improvements by the early 2000s.

Each stamp features a striking photograph of the bird (often in action or natural habitat) and includes text noting the species' historical low population (e.g., near-extinction or very few breeding pairs in the mid-20th century) contrasted with much healthier numbers by around 2005–2006. The issue celebrates successful conservation stories, including reintroductions (e.g., white-tailed eagle, red kite), protection from persecution/pesticides, and habitat management.
The birds depicted are a mix of raptors/birds of prey (white-tailed eagle, red kite, marsh harrier, peregrine) and other notable scarce species (bearded tit, cirl bunting, avocet, bittern, Dartford warbler, corncrake). This set is part of Royal Mail's tradition of wildlife-themed stamps raising awareness about British biodiversity and endangered species.
